Leah Alexander has worked at Children's Hospital for almost nine years. Originally, she worked for housekeeping, in the linen room, but later switched to the cafeteria.
"What I love most about my job is that I get to work with people," said Leah.
Towne Taxi takes Leah to work every day from her home in North Avondale, where she's lived nearly all her life.
"I was gone for two years in Iowa at Indian Hills Community College, but I came back because my family is here."
Family is very important to Leah, who has three older sisters, five nieces and two nephews. Her sister Lynne Calloway works for the agency as the Family Liaison.
"My sisters and I are close," said Leah, "Lately Lynne and I like to listen to music in the car together. We like gospel and jazz."
Leah also just started a term on the Board of Directors for Living Arrangements for the Developmentally Disabled (LADD).
"As a former recipient of LADD's services, we thought she'd provide insight and greater diversity to our Board. She is very articulate and civic minded - both qualities we look for in board members," said a member of the board nominating committee.
In addition, Leah is the Editor in Chief of Speaking Up, a bi-annual newsletter written and published by individuals served by the agency. She decides on newsletter topics, writes articles and runs meetings.
"I just like to help and be involved!" said Leah.
